Costa Rica

Colon.  US$1=420 Colones

Fuel costs

200 Colones per litre for diesel

Places to stay/camp

Some commercial campsites, but not easy to find secluded bush camps. Hotel grounds are worth a try.
Other information GMT-6 hrs.  No visas necessary for UK or Irish passport holders. Carnet not accepted, and temporary importation requires lots of photocopies - half a dozen each(!) of passport, vehicle title, Costa Rica insurance ($10 or so for a month), importation form, and driver's licence . Internet more expensive than most in South America, but still cheap and widespread

Roads fair, but minor roads and badly maintained major roads have lots of potholes.

Very tourist oriented and noticeably more expensive than South America.  We didn't encounter discriminatory pricing.
