Good bush camping in less populated areas. Lots of "eco" hostels and
resorts, ranging from hammock to luxury rooms, pricing to match. Finca
Ixobel south of Tikal would be a great place to spend a few days. |

GMT-6 hrs.
No visas necessary for UK or Irish passport holders. Carnet not needed, but
importation of vehicle at a total cost about $30 was easy. Cheap and
widespread Internet. Major roads apparently recently upgraded - very good.
Back roads varied.
Still more pricey than South America, but we are getting used to the new
standard. Lots of tourists in Guatemala, but still easy to get to quiet
places. |
